Ikirwa’s founder, Gasper Mbise, runs Neeko Tours, a safari and climbing company in Arusha. Many of the people who built this school met him on the way up Kilimanjaro. If you are planning a climb, you can make it a charity climb for the school, and Neeko will help you do it.
How a charity climb works
- Book with Neeko Tours. Choose a Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru itinerary. Charity climbers receive a discount on the climb, and teams of three or more a further discount.
- Choose what you are climbing for. A scholarship, a named project, or the general fund. We will suggest a target and give you photographs and facts for your page.
- Set up your fundraising page. On GlobalGiving, JustGiving or GoGetFunding, or ask Neeko to set one up for you.
- Visit the school. Before or after your climb, spend a morning at Ikirwa. Meet the children, see the classrooms, and hand over the desks you paid for. It is an hour from Arusha and it is the part people remember.

Most climbers raise between $500 and $2,000. A team of four at $1,000 each furnishes five classrooms or keeps eight children in school for a year.
