Volunteers have shaped the school since it opened. We look for people who will work alongside our staff rather than in place of them, who can commit to at least a month, and who bring a skill the school needs. We help with accommodation in the village, and a stay can be combined with a safari or climb through Neeko Tours.
Current openings
- Early-years and lower-primary teaching assistants with relevant experience, one month to a year, to model modern classroom practice: independent study, collaborative learning, alternatives to rote teaching.
- English as a second language teachers, one to three months, working with pupils, staff and adult learners.
- School nurse (part time), with public health and child wellbeing experience and a degree or equivalent.
- Librarian or computer laboratory technician to establish and run the library and computer room.
- Carpenters to build bookshelves, desks, benches and cupboards as classrooms are added.
- Artists to design and paint murals and decorate classrooms.
- Gardeners for the school garden that supplies the kitchen. Enthusiasm matters more than experience.
Practicalities
Volunteers meet their own flights, insurance and living costs. Longer formal placements are available through partner volunteer organisations. Everyone working with children provides references and a police or background check, and signs a liability waiver.
